The Butterfly Farm is powered by a 3.67 KW solar PV system which is tied into the grid (Net metering). During daylight the solar array converts solar radiation to direct current (DC) electricity. The inverters in the system convert the DC
power to the alternating current (AC) so that t is compatible with the utility’s power grid. The electricity generated is consumed by the household’s devices. Any excess power is measured by the utility’s digital “net meter). Once the sun has set for the night, the inverter automatically shuts down and disconnects itself from the grid until sunrise. At night the grid provides the electricity consumed by the household’s devices.
